Technology Blog 3: Learning to Learn

In chapter 3, it is stated that "by developing knowledge for, in, and of practice, we enhance professional growth, which can lead to real change"(p. 49, Nussbaum). These 3 key building blocks are very helpful for learning amongst many fields. By developing knowledge around your practices and openly applying them to the broad world, your professional value will increase. I believe that navigating the digital landscape, such as in the field of digital ad/marketing, calls for these 3 learning techniques the most, as the environment is so fast paced and ever-changing (technology and modernization) that learning is a constant survival tool, in order to not get left behind in traditional innovation.

On page 52 of the same chapter, it is written that "Schools have habitually prepared students for life by making them dependent on others to teach them, rather than placing power over learning into the learner's hands"(Nussbaum). This quote stuck out to me as it calls out public education for coddling learners, in a way that modern learners look for easy fixes rather than attempting to navigate self-teaching through the technological world. This is where my career would come in handy, as I would be able to showcase (through marketing) how possible digital navigation is, through the tech industry/digital landscape as I am tasked to study it (especially for businesses looking to upgrade their softwares/digitization).

  1. Hey Ari, I do like the way you have related the chapter concepts to digital marketing. Your comment that it is important to be constantly learning in the technology sector makes a lot of sense since technology keeps evolving. I also enjoyed the way you talked about the fact that education should provide the learner with the power to control their learning.

  2. Hi Ari! I enjoy the chapters in this textbook especially since we can connect its ideas to all professionals, not just educators. You did great job on connecting the ideas in chapter five to your future career in digital marketing. As a CIS major, I always say technology is constantly evolving every single day. Therefore, it is important to stay consistently up to date. By doing so, it can help you grow in whatever career field you are in.

  3. Hey Ari, I really enjoyed reading your post. I liked how you were able to connect the future of digital marketing. It is an interesting idea that learning is a survival skill because it really is. I like how you made a point to mention how the traditional education system should all learners control their learning which will allow navigate self-teaching. With this idea it was cool you were able to connect to your future career by showing people digital navigation.
