Smackdown 1: handshake

App review video below

Handshake is a student-centered career networking app that allows you to connect with like-minded peers in both the education and careers field. An organized algorithm curates a feed for you to view career updates from your specific institution, favored organizations, or even peers around the country. Similar to LinkedIn and Indeed, Handshake is an applicant friendly app, and includes a listing page in which you can save job listings from key employers and apply with an online resume through the app. Employers can then use your platform (profile and postings) to view your professional and education achievements and connections, expanding your network.

This app is tailored for the needs of both pre- and post grads, as it connects student-learners with employers and internships looking for starting-level associates. As a Senior at Stockton, I am joining the ranks of new graduates searching for beginner level work, a filter in job searching that professional targeted apps such as Indeed do not include. Handshake is made for college students in mind, and with its simple user interface and accomplishment focused profile, I can utilize it to showcase course work as a "portfolio." Overall this app has made it easier to access internships, especially paid ones, while also substituting empty social media by keeping me indepthly networked within my University.
