Networking is a key tool within the fast-paced modern technological landscape that professionals today are navigating. As Chapter 2 of The Connected Educator explains, the three prong-approach to developing professionally consists of segmented communities refined to research and practice of a specific topic.  For education and learning communities, a personal learning network with these prongs connects those with the same goals and ideas, utilizing a mix of traditional and modern communication in 3 multi-levels.
However for a digitally-focused profession, such as digital marketing, personal networking online consists of an overwhelming amount of possible branching opportunities. As the image shows, the main strategies used by marketers consist of shared blogging, social media use, and search engine optimization (interacting with search engine users). Digital Marketers simply HAVE to interact with and learn from the world around them (and clients) not only to thrive as professionals, but to survive the ever-changing industry.
As a digital professional, whether managing a platform with a follower count, or developing an information system with a global team, ideas are constantly being shared, created, and taught among collaborators. Development of online communities to share professional spaces (such as linkedIN) influence "DIY" self-marketing and also are examples of the network branching that stimulates professional online growth and creates an accessibility for users that influences diverse perspectives.  Overall, modern professional communities can connect and learn best in an accessible, creative, and tolerant environment, utilizing digital space to make room for more ideas.
